Our Story
Built from a Real Need, Not a Boardroom
Hello, and thank you for being part of the Dailybetes community and installing Dailybetes: Diabetic Tracker.
This app started from a simple, personal need. As a wedding videographer, I’m always on the go—and there were so many times I didn’t know how many carbs were in the meals I was eating. I wished I had something that could help me better estimate carbs so I could more confidently manage my insulin doses.
That’s when the idea came: create a tool that could scan food and give a realistic carb estimation right when I needed it.
What started as something just for me quickly became something much bigger. I realized so many of us live with the same daily challenges.
Dailybetes was built by diabetics, for diabetics. I understand the mental load, the constant calculations, and the effort it takes to manage this condition every day.
My hope is that this app makes your life a little easier and helps you feel more confident and in control.

Understanding Carbs, Glycemic Index & Diabetic Nutrition
Essential knowledge for managing Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes through smarter food choices.
What is carb counting and why is it important for diabetics?
Carb counting is the practice of tracking how many grams of carbohydrates you eat at each meal. For people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, carb counting is essential because carbohydrates have the biggest impact on blood sugar levels. By knowing your carb intake, you can better dose insulin (Type 1) or manage blood sugar through diet (Type 2). Dailybetes makes carb counting easy with a database of 300+ foods, each showing exact carb counts per serving.
What are the best low glycemic foods for diabetics?
Low glycemic foods (GI of 55 or below) are ideal for diabetics because they cause a slower, more gradual rise in blood sugar. Some of the best low GI foods include lentils (GI 32), chickpeas (GI 28), most non-starchy vegetables, apples (GI 36), berries, oats, sweet potatoes, and nuts. Dailybetes classifies every food as a "Good Carb" or "Bad Carb" based on its glycemic index, making it easy to identify the best foods for blood sugar management.
How does the glycemic index help manage diabetes?
The Glycemic Index (GI) ranks foods from 0 to 100 based on how quickly they raise blood sugar. Low GI foods (55 or below) are digested slowly and cause gradual blood sugar changes, while high GI foods (70+) cause rapid spikes. For diabetics, choosing low GI foods helps maintain stable blood sugar levels, reduces the risk of complications, and makes insulin dosing more predictable. Dailybetes provides GI values for every food in the database.
What can diabetics eat at restaurants?
Eating out with diabetes can be challenging, but it doesn't have to be stressful. Look for grilled proteins, non-starchy vegetables, salads with dressing on the side, and whole grain options. Avoid breaded or fried foods, sugary sauces, and large portions of rice or pasta. Dailybetes Pro includes a Restaurant Finder that helps you discover diabetic-friendly restaurants near your location, so you can eat out with confidence.
How do I estimate my A1C from glucose readings?
A1C reflects your average blood sugar over the past 2-3 months. The ADA-recognized formula to estimate A1C from average glucose is: A1C = (Average Glucose in mg/dL + 46.7) / 28.7. For example, an average glucose of 154 mg/dL corresponds to an A1C of about 7.0%. Dailybetes Pro includes an A1C Estimator that automatically calculates your estimated A1C from your logged glucose readings, with risk classification and trend tracking.
Is coffee safe for diabetics? What about creamers and sweeteners?
Black coffee has zero carbs and a GI of 0, making it safe for most diabetics. However, many creamers and sweeteners can add significant carbs and cause blood sugar spikes. Sugar-free sweeteners like stevia and erythritol are generally safe options. Dailybetes Pro includes a Coffee & Tea Guide that helps you find the best creamers and sweeteners for diabetics, so you can enjoy your daily coffee without the sugar spike.

Premium features like the Zara AI Assistant, Food Scanner, Glucose Tracker, and Restaurant Finder are available for $4.99/month.
What is the Glycemic Index and why does it matter for diabetics?
The Glycemic Index (GI) is a scale from 0 to 100 that ranks how quickly a food impacts your body after eating. Foods with a low GI (55 or below) are digested slowly and have a gentler effect, while high GI foods (70+) are absorbed rapidly. Dailybetes classifies every food as a Good Carb or Bad Carb based on its GI value, making it easy to choose foods that support a balanced diet.
Who is Zara, the AI nutrition assistant?
Zara is Dailybetes' built-in AI nutrition assistant. She can answer questions about diabetic nutrition, suggest meals, recommend healthier food swaps, and provide personalized advice based on your dietary needs. Zara is available as a Premium feature.

We focus on what matters most: carb counts, glycemic index, blood sugar patterns, and making food decisions easier. What data does Dailybetes use for nutrition information?
Dailybetes uses USDA-standard nutrition data for carb counts, serving sizes, and macronutrient information. Glycemic Index values are sourced from published clinical research and the International Tables of Glycemic Index. Our AI-powered recipes also use USDA-accurate nutrition data to ensure every meal plan is reliable and trustworthy.
How many carbs should a diabetic eat per day?
Most diabetes guidelines recommend 45–60 grams of carbs per meal, or roughly 135–180 grams per day, though this varies by individual. The key is choosing low glycemic index carbs that digest slowly and don't spike blood sugar. Dailybetes makes this easy — every food in our 309+ database shows exact carb counts and a Good/Bad carb classification based on its GI value, so you always know how many carbs you're eating and whether they're the right kind.
Does coffee raise blood sugar for diabetics?
Black coffee itself has minimal impact on blood sugar, but what you add to it matters. Sugar-laden creamers, flavored syrups, and sweetened coffee drinks can cause significant glucose spikes. Dailybetes includes a dedicated Coffee Guide (Pro feature) that covers the best sugar-free coffee creamers, natural sweeteners, and diabetic-friendly coffee choices so you can enjoy your daily cup without worrying about your blood sugar.
What are good diabetic snacks with a low glycemic index?
Some of the best diabetic snacks include almonds, walnuts, Greek yogurt, hummus with vegetables, hard-boiled eggs, cheese, berries, and celery with peanut butter — all of which have low glycemic index values. Dailybetes categorizes 309+ foods by GI rating, making it easy to find good diabetic snacks. You can save your favorites for quick access and use the Favorites feature to build a personalized list of go-to snacks.
Is there a free A1C calculator app?
Yes — Dailybetes includes a built-in A1C Estimator that calculates your estimated A1C from your logged glucose readings using the ADA-recognized formula. It shows your risk classification, trends over time, and whether you're successfully lowering your A1C. While it's not a replacement for lab work, it gives you a reliable estimate between doctor visits. The A1C Estimator is available as a Pro feature.
What are the best diabetic fast food options?
The best diabetic fast food options include grilled chicken sandwiches (without the bun), salads without croutons or sugary dressings, bunless burgers, and grilled protein bowls. Chains like Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, and Subway offer customizable options that can be made diabetic-friendly. Dailybetes includes a Restaurant Finder (Pro feature) that helps you discover diabetic-friendly restaurants and fast food options near you with GI-rated menu suggestions.
